Title of Work: Giving is timeless

Name of Subject:  Zoe

Submitted By: Lee Pinwell in support of Foodbank Queensland

Photo Essay: Come rain or shine the volunteers from Community Friends are there every Wednesday, unpacking and supplying fresh produce to the local community.

Zoe, affectionately known as Auntie by the regulars, knows their faces, their likes and dislikes and their stories. She makes sure those in need have enough fresh fruit and vegetables to last the week, is always up for a good gossip with the familiar faces and checks in with those who are new.

But volunteering is much more than helping those in need, each week Zoe is able to catch up with her community, her friends and neighbours. No act of kindness, no matter how small is ever wasted.

Lee Pinwell nominated Foodbank Queensland as the charity of choice to receive a $2,000 donation sponsored by Northern Trust.

Foodbank is the largest hunger relief organisation in Australia – servicing over 2,000 charities in every state and territory to enable them to provide food to 710,000 people a month. In 1995 Foodbank Queensland was founded by “Mr Queensland Clem Jones AO” and Ian Brusasco AO. Foodbank Queensland quickly scaled up to achieve significant volume, working closely with the abundance of fruit and vegetable farmers in the state. Foodbank Queensland is now helping to feed almost 200,000 people every month.
