Townsville Mayor, Cr Jenny Hill presented grants to nine charities in the North Queensland region totalling $32,764 to help them continue to provide vital services for the local community.

North Queensland Community Foundation chair, Lieutenant General (Ret’d) John Caligari AO, DSC said he was very pleased to be able to provide these grants to local NQ groups who are working hard to help others in need.

“The locally based and often smallest local charities are in the best position to identify and respond to local NQ needs and we are just delighted to be able to help them provide these vital services for our community,” he said.

“The pool of applicants this year was the strongest yet, so it is more important than ever that we as a community continue to build our fund to meet the needs of our local charities.  I’d encourage people to ‘give where you live’ and help support the North Queensland Community Foundation.”

Still in its infancy, the QCF North Queensland Community Foundation has been providing grants in the region for the last three years, with a growing pull on the funding capacity each year.

LtGen (Ret’d) John Caligari AO, DSC said donations and bequests to QCF for the North Queensland Community Foundation are invested to build the capital of the Fund, with the income providing a valuable and sustainable source of funding for the greater good of the community.
