A Gold Coast Life Saver, a Law student from QUT, an Order of Australia recipient, and Brisbane Markets have been honoured at the Queensland Community Foundation’s (QCF) 2016 Philanthropist of the Year Awards ceremony.

Nic Marchesi and Lucas Patchett, Young Australians of the Year for 2016 and founders of Orange Sky Laundry, gave an inspiring speech to the 400 guests gathered at the Brisbane Sofitel for the awards ceremony, part of Philanthropy Week from 13 – 17 June 2016.

QCF Acting Chair, Glenn Poole, said the Philanthropy Awards recognises outstanding individuals and organisations that assist community, voluntary and charity groups in Queensland, with the winners chosen from over 40 nominees.

Philanthropy Week is aimed at raising awareness about philanthropy, honouring those who make an outstanding contribution to the community and advancing support for the State’s charities and community service organisations through sustainable giving.

Recipients of the Junior, Young and Community Philanthropist of the Year Awards each have $2,000 from the award sponsors to donate to a charity of their choice.
