Queensland Community Foundation is excited to announce Michael Traill AM as the guest speaker for the 2017 QCF Philanthropist of the Year Awards Luncheon.
An ambitious, competitive kid from a country town, Michael converted his education opportunities into a highly paid and successful career at Macquarie Bank.
But at the peak of this career, he decided to leave that behind. Reconnecting with the values of family and community that shaped his childhood, he founded a unique Australian non-profit, Social Ventures Australia, and became a key architect of one of the biggest social enterprises in the world.
Michael was also closely involved in the creation of the unique Goodstart non-profit syndicate, now a successful billion dollar social enterprise, which acquired the assets of the failed ABC childcare centres in 2010.
He currently has a range of primarily social purpose Chair and board roles including Chairman of Assetic Pty Ltd, a Director of M H Carnegie & Co, Sunsuper and a member of the Council of the National Museum of Australia.
In 2010, Michael was made a member of the Order of Australia in recognition of his services to non-profit organisations.
Michael is the author of ‘Jumping Ship – From the world of corporate Australia to the heart of social investment,’ which reflects his personal and professional journey and has been a widely acclaimed manifesto for change and action in the social purpose sector.
